The Pool at Angoulême

Part I

The home stretches in the midday sun

Food eaten and rest won

The hammock brings peace amidst the sparrows song

The home rests in the beating sun

The walls watch the drying grass

Water warms in the glass

The bodies stretched between the days hours that pass

As the pool brings cool at last

Part II

From the pool the heat subsides

The showers come the clouds they cool

The pool retreats and sets itself aside

And hides to wait once more for sun

To come and heat its waters.

The travellers wait

With plates of food they dine

And wine they drink

From heated vines

The rain it falls

Across the walls where memories hide

The travellers subside in sleep.

A day breaks

They wake to news of building warmth

And walk the slopes to city walls

Inside of which the travellers eat

Amidst the gradual rising heat

Their feet descend as sun burns full

The pool awaits

into its cool they plunge.

Their skin calmed unharmed they swim

Into the place of timeless space

Into the place of spaceless time

Into its waters calm they drift.

Part III

Day ends - darkness descends

the blue hour holds - the warmth enfolds.

Silhouettes shape - night awakes

the blue hour holds - memories unfold.
